April’s Aloha Annex

Page Description: “Aloha! My name is April Buxton, I am raising money for the evacuees that are currently living in the parking lot of the Pahoa Community Center. I have been living in Leilani for about a year and now I’m one of those displaced by the current eruption at Kilauea. I have started the April’s Aloha Annex to help those that live in the parking lot around me.  There are hundreds of people living in makeshift structures and tents because the shelter is at capacity.  Although the Red Cross is trying to accommodate the evacuees, they are nowhere near prepared to deal with the current situation. I have set up a separate kitchen and donation tent to get things we actually need like tents, canopys, tarps , cots, camping stoves, air matresses, etc.”  Read more here…

Safe Haven for Lava Evacuees

Page Description: “Aloha. My name is Mailani Souza and I am a land owner in Puna, just outside of the area affected by the active lava flow. I was born and raised on the Big Island and my heart has always been in the Puna district. I feel so strongly driven to support the people who have endured such tragic loss with the current lava situation.  My vision is to create a safe haven where I can take in three or four families in need on my acre of land. Currently, the land has been cleared and two temporary living structures have been moved to the property. We have a community kitchen space and a port a potty at this time (and a trampoline and skate ramp for the kids ) What we really need is infrastructure –  water catchment, solar power, toilets, ground cover, and building supplies for one or two more structures.  Any small amount is greatly appreciated as well as any skill or labor. As of today, there will be 10 people (two evacuated families and 7 kids) staying on the land and we would love to make it as comfortable as possible in a timely manner. In the midst of all of this tragedy we must hold together strong and be the loving community that this Island needs.  Mahalo for your support.”  Read more here…

Lava Took Our Land & Business Site

College Preparation Leilani Evacuee

Page Description:My family and I were residents of Leilani estates when the eruptions and evacuation began. Despite this I’ve done my best to prepare for the upcoming school year and the start of my first year in college. I graduated the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science with a 3.7 GPA and was accepted into the university of Hawaii at Manoa in Oahu in the Fall and obtain a bachelor’s in engineering. Before Leilani was evacuated, I’d planned to work over the summer and sell my car in order to have some savings to cover the cost of my flight, basic furnishings, and textbooks. However, now I find myself displaced from my home with college fees, a plane ticket to Oahu to buy, and eventually a dorm to furnish (from a refrigerator and microwave, to bedding and food, the list is endless). My parents want to help but both lost their jobs because of the erruption. I currently have none of the funds I’m going to need and I would appreciate any amount of help during this time. Any excess funds raised with this fundraiser will go directly towards my tuition. Mahalo Nui LoaRead more here…

Help Our Amazing & Beloved Suzette

Page Description:If you’ve seen the news, you know the big island of Hawaii is engulfed in lava in particular areas. This disaster has left Suzette Maurice, one of the most amazing people I’ve had the privilege of knowing, without shelter, food, safety, and her scooter too! I met Suzette on the Big Island in 2013 when she worked for Keala Noel  at Aloha Healing Women. I was visiting there from Austin, TX. Above all else, what impressed me most was Suzette’s resilience, resourcefulness, and generosity. Given her fiercely strong spirit, I couldn’t sit back and read her messages of despair on Facebook without doing something for another moment. I asked Suzette if it would be alright for me to start this fund on her behalf, and she consented. As you know from her posts, she has had a very tough time getting around the lava without her scooter.  Read more here…

Cindy & Mitch – Life After Lava

Page Description:My name is Colette Pellowski and I live in Pleasanton, California. My sister Cindy Aragon and her husband Mitch Aragon lost their home of 28 years on the Big Island of Hawaii on June 5, 2018 due to the recent lava flow from the Kilauea volcano. Their home in Kapoho (in the Puna district) that they built from the ground up and all of their possessions were completely lost when their entire neighborhood was wiped out. Over 600 homes have been lost. Any money raised will help them to get back on their feet and start to recover from this devastating event. They need to cover temporary living expenses and start replacing some of the many personal items they lost. We will keep this campaign going for 7 days then we will transfer the funds to them. Every little bit helps. Mahalo ! Read more here…

Kanekiki needs your help

Page Description:Aloha and thank you for taking interest in this amazing cause. As you may know, areas of the southeast side of the Big Island have been totally devastated by the Kilauea lava flow. It is difficult to fathom lava miles wide coating your entire town, your home and everything that is comfortable in your life yet that is exactly what is happening to our friends and family on the Big Island at this very moment. The flow has covered Kapoho Bay, Champagne Ponds, Green Lake Mountain, ‘4 corners’, and is currently traveling along Railroad Ave. in the direction of Kanekiki Farm. Kanekiki Community Farm has been a home, sanctuary and safe haven to myself and so many others over the past 8 years. The tropical fruit oasis spans nearly 20 acres and is home to hundreds of varieties of tropical fruit with simple huts to house visitors. Most importantly though, it is home to the most knowledgable and caring owners who have dedicated their lives to teaching compassion, understanding, and total health. On top of the unimaginable loss of their entire town, and the fate of their home, Kanekiki in Pele’s hands; They are grappling with financial loss as well.”  Read more here…     |    Visit their Facebook Page here

Family Displaced By Lava

Page Description:On May 3, 2018, Kilauea Volcano began erupting in Leilani Estates, several miles from our home. On May 27, 2018, my family was displaced from our homestead. Lava from Kilauea Volcano covered much of Highway 132 from Pahoa to Kapoho, veered down Noni Farms Road, then through the woods and covered 8 acres of our 11 acre farm. A horseshoe of lava surrounds our two houses, orchard & vegetable gardens. A river of lava flows like rapids just a few hundred feet away. Access roads have been covered, gasses from the lava are killing the fruit trees and plants, and make living on the farm unthinkable. At any time the lava channel could breach and completely cover the rest of our 3 acres.” Read more here…

Help Relocate Aina from Big Island!

Page Description:My name is Maia Nagahisa. This is a fundraiser for my mother. My mother is on the Big Island right outside the evacuation zone. Since the beginning of May, the Big Island of Hawaii has been under an emergency evacuation alert for certain areas in the Puna district. My mother lives in Puna. Although her area is not in the immediate evacuation zone at this time, she is close. The volcano is unpredictable and the air quality hazardous.  For those of you that know us, my mother has been working very hard to maintain her health and well being to the best of her ability. She is  now and has been for the past year completely bed-ridden. She has been living quietly in her home with a caregiving service, family and friends tending to her needs.  My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma 7 years ago and has been battling this disease with strength and dignity.” Read more here…

Farm under lava- no time to evac

Page Description:May 3, 2018 me, my husband, daughter & elderly father had to evacuate due to sudden volcanic eruptions on the ridge above us called Lani Puna Gardens. For 17 years I planted & poured my heart & soul into the earth into an oasis of permaculture, self sufficiency, community gardens using off grid& solar systems. The gardens & bounty became so abundant over 17 years of hard work stewarding that we were able to eat 2 meals a day from it and sell extra fruit & honey to the Natural grocers & fruit stand. We lost our home & business from volcanic eruptions that happened suddenly cutting us off from access to my farm with many rivers of lava that eventually took our farm this month! . We did not have time to evacuate our belongings.. The earth was beautiful with exotic tropical fruits; I planted over 100 different kinds of fruit 17 years ago., raised bed veggie gardens, taro patches, medicinal plants, nuts & herbs, ..Evan our durians fruited! We cared for around 90 animals on the farm. I hosted a permaculture experience in the jungle offering affordable housing options such as work trade for about 100 people a year. We threw events for the community. ” Read more here…

Help Michelle Musli Coe Kick Cancer

Page Description:Aloha, our dear sister and friend Michelle “Musli” Coe is fighting a battle with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. After not feeling well for months, she went to the emergency room, was diagnosed, and immediately airlifted to Oahu where she was given a full hysterectomy. They were able to get much of the cancer out at that time, but had discovered it spread to her liver, large intestine and colon. She began chemotherapy in March and will have treatments until at least July. At the same time all of this was happening, torrential rains hit the islands flooding the house they are building themselves, making it too damp and moldy to live in while she is doing chemo. So, not only does she need money for ongoing medical expenses, she also needs assistance to repair her home so she can eventually move back there. She and her family really need our help and would never ask for it, so her close friends are doing their best to help alleviate her worries and stress so she can just concentrate on healing herself and being there for her 2 children Nyah and Mariell.” Read more here…
